9ft or 10ft carp rods? Whats the difference and what should i buy

I’m currently in the market for a new set of carp rods and I’m torn between going for 9ft or 10ft rods. I’ve read a few mixed opinions online, but I’d love to hear directly from those with hands-on experience using either (or both) sizes.

Here’s a bit of context about my fishing style and venues:

  • I mostly fish medium-sized lakes and the occasional canal.
  • I like to stay mobile and often fish short sessions.
  • I use a barrow but still prefer a compact, easy-to-carry setup.
  • I don’t usually cast more than 80–100 yards, but would still like decent casting performance.
  • Occasionally, I might fish snaggy margins or tight swims.

I’ve heard that 9ft rods are great for stalking and tighter spots, but I’m wondering if I’ll be sacrificing too much distance or fish control, especially on bigger waters. On the flip side, will 10ft rods give me that extra versatility without becoming too bulky?

Would really appreciate any advice, including what setups you’re using, pros and cons you’ve found, and any rod models you recommend.

Cheers in advance!

9fts IMO are too stiff, 10ft’s are probably the way to go for your scenario
